I dont make great deals of money each month, so I just want some decent coverage if the inevitable does happen. So I guess since I am a current sophomore in college i could just get term life insurance and then convert it to whole life once i get a good job. So then would you say term is better than whole life in my situation of being a 19 year old parent?

We are currently in credit counseling and have been for the past 2 years, we still have about $7,000 of debt to pay off, and about $3,000 on a car loan to pay off.
If we pull the money out of the 401k and rid ourselves of this debt, we’d be freeing up almost $900 a month… which could be used for savings, paying off our mortgage a little earlier… or countless other things…
I realize that there is a price to pay for taking the money out early… like %35 in fees and taxes, but in the long run wouldn’t getting rid of this debt be a better idea?

I’ve always had excellent credit (730+) until I graduated from college a couple years ago. A year ago I entered a credit settlement program on about $10K of card debt from school.

I’m married now and we didn’t think the housing market would be so low so quickly, and we’re trying like mad to pay off my settlements and repair my credit. I need a new credit card, but ONLY for the purpose of having a credit line, so that I look good to mortgage banks. I finally make enough that I would never need to use it.

Aside from paying off my settlement (one account is left), how can I start fixing things?

I take many calls all day where people are struggling financially with both unsecured debt and mortgage crisisis. I don’t want to sit on my butt all day for the rest of my life and listen to other peoples issues when I have them of my own. I have experience as a Medical Assistant but, want a front office job where they are willing to train me. Can you guys give me some ideas? I want to spend most time with my daughter when she is born but, I still would need a part time job that is uplifting and keeps me motivated.
